To achieve the APM Project Professional Qualification (PPQ), you are required to pass three core modules and one elective module. Each module is a three-hour exam consisting of four questions based on a specific scenario. You must have an APM PMQ or similar qualification to take this course.

Launched in April 2016, the new Project Professional Qualification (PPQ), developed by APM, the chartered body for the project profession, is an examination-based qualification that assesses your capability in delivering projects, programmes and portfolios.

Covering the core and specific competences project professionals require across all areas of the profession, PPQ is the most comprehensive assessment of professional project management capability available.

How is it examined?

The PPQ is a demonstration of the application of knowledge and comprises three core modules and one role specific elective module.  Each module is examined through a three hour written paper which is scenario based.  A candidate can bring five pages of notes into a PPQ examination.

The modules

Four modules are required to achieve the qualification and must be passed within a 3 year period.

Core (all three)

Module 1: Professionalism and managing others

Module 2: Planning and control

Module 3: Governance

Elective (one from three)

Module 4: Project management

Module 5: Programme management

Module 6: Portfolio management

Specialist support

Each candidate will receive a comprehensive package of support as they study their four modules.  This comprises a range of services, including:

  • Candidate readiness assessment using PMA6
  • Video’s
  • Learning materials
  • Practise papers with tutor marked answers
  • Example answers to practise papers
  • 5-page ‘open book’ notes

Prices options per module

Exam price: £400 + vat
Optional specialist support: £500 + vat

Total prices

Price for the four exams: £1,600 + vat
Price for the specialist support for four modules: £2,000 + vat
Maximum price for four exams and specialist support for four modules: £3,600 + vat

Notes:

Payment: Either pay for each module as to go along, or pay for the whole package to avoid any price increases.

Notice to take an exam: Please provide at least one weeks notice to sit the APM PPQ exams.

Your PMQ exam results and project management experience are excellent indicators of your readiness to take the PPQ. If you are ready, it is highly recommended that you take the specialist support for each module, at least for the three core modules.

    PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner course review

    I attended the project management qualification in December (having already attended the PRINCE2 course in November). Although a challenging subject, I found that the training was engaging because there was adequate time to not only listen but to also give examples and hear examples from other individuals from the class.
