UAQ Drone course Introduction

This 3 day approved drone course is designed for you to get permission to fly your drone for commercial and financial gain. You’re looking to gain employment with an existing drone company and operate a drone under their PfCO.  The drone is just a tool, but this tool can carry technology that can be innovative, time saving and cost saving when compared against current practices. Your investment in this technology is small compared to the opportunities that may arise from it.

The 3 day course is outlined as follows:

On booking the course: You will need to spend approximately 20 hours to prepare for the course and its exams.

Day 1: Classroom based theory covering topics in detail that you’ve seen on the learning portal.

Day 2: More classroom based theory followed by two exams: Theory and Flight Planning

Day 3: Flight assessment day. You’ll need to bring your drone and demonstrate its safe handling. Weather dependent.

  • Permission for Commercial Operation (PfCO) – A permission to fly and be approved by the CAA under your own PfCO. [The Diploma course]
  • Unmanned Aircraft Qualification (UAQ) – Certificate in the Remote Piloting of unmanned aircraft for Commercial Operations

  • ProQual – The examining body of the UAQ

How long will it take?

You must join the course with the required flight experience, and spend around 20 hours studying the pre-course material. On successfully passing both theory exams and your flight assessment you’ll then receive your Certificate in the Remote Piloting of Unmanned Aircraft for Commercial Operations.

Exams

The theory and a flight planning exams are held on the afternoon of day two. You will need to pass both exams before moving on to the practical flight assessment day. The course is designed to prepare you for both exams. However, you are strongly advised to complete approximately 20 hours of pre-reading before the start of the course. Materials will be sent to you on completion of the booking process. This part of your learning will prepare you for the language of aviation and include references to regulations and legal documentation. It is then the skill of our trainers that will provide an interpretation of the language so you will have no doubt of its meaning.

The total cost of the course is £1200 plus VAT

Your drone: Drones can cost between £800 to £4000+ that are used for commercial work. Onboard equipment will cost more.

Course Aims

  • To demonstrate the required practical flying competence for the safe operation of a small unmanned aircraft (drone) in any airspace. (Remote Pilot level 3)

Course Objectives

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the required level of theory and flight planning knowledge to fully plan and execute a commercial drone flight in any airspace.
  • Understand the requirements of the law and regulations about the use of drones within the UK.
  • Complete a suitable assessment of both the ground and aviation risks having identified and researched the hazards associated with a flight in a specified location.
